Artikel berikut saya salin dari The Star Online edisi Rabu 9 April 2008. Inilah barangkali yang disebut keampuhan word of mouth. Silahkan disimak.
Impressed with service at pharmacy
The public should be informed about the advantages of dispensing separation. I would like to share one of my experiences with readers. During my study abroad in Indonesia, I went to a clinic there to see a doctor for some kind of skin rash that I had.
After the doctor made the diagnosis, he told me that I had a bacterial infection and he prescribed an antibiotics regime and painkiller. I brought the prescription to the pharmacy (in Indonesia it is called apotek) to get it filled. What I like about the pharmacist there is that she asked me further questions about my skin rash and diagnosed that my condition was only an allergic reaction and not a bacterial infection. She immediately telephoned the doctor asking him to change the prescription and the family doctor agreed to change the antibiotics with either steroid cream or antihistamine.
The pharmacist further told me to choose between the antihistamine tablets and steroid cream, saying that the antihistamine is costlier than the cream but convenient. Since I was on a tight budget, I chose the cheap one even though it was inconvenient, and my condition finally improved. Dispensing separation is a good thing; it helps the patient to get involved even more with the healthcare system.
Patients will also know their rights more on medication therapy when they opt for a family pharmacist as well as family doctor. The Health Ministry should set a date when the separation will takes place, so that more pharmacies and 24-hour pharmacies can be opened near clinics.
